Sigmedia Joins the Alliance for Open Media

Sigmedia team has joined the Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia), a global non-profit industry consortium formed to develop open, royalty-free technology for multimedia delivery (https://aomedia.org). AOMedia is the team behind the development of the open-source codec, AV1. This partnership marks a significant step in promoting Emerald’s research around open standards for video, audio, and multimedia technologies worldwide.

Sigmedia will collaborate with AOMedia to explore integrating tools developed during the Emerald project towards next-generation coding standards.

Prof. Anil Kokaram expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration:

We are excited to join AOMedia and work alongside industry leaders to advance open media technologies. Our commitment to innovation and open research aligns perfectly with AOMedia’s mission, and we are eager to contribute to creating open media standards that drive accessibility and inclusivity.

Matt Frost, Chair of AOMedia, welcomed Trinity’s participation:

We are thrilled to have Trinity College Dublin join the Alliance for Open Media. Their outstanding research and technological expertise will significantly enhance our collaborative efforts to develop open and accessible media standards. The Sigmedia group’s contributions will be invaluable to our mission and the broader open media ecosystem.
